Richard L. Jones, PhD
President and Chair
Richard L. Jones currently serves as President and CEO for Metropolitan Family Services, one of the largest private human service agencies in Chicago, Illinois. Previously, Dr. Jones served as President of the Center for Families and Children in Cleveland, Ohio and Executive Director of Boston Children's Services in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Jones completed his Master's and Ph.D. in Social Work Administration from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences of Case Western Reserve University. Previous leadership responsibilities have included serving on the Board of Directors of Leadership Cleveland and the Cleveland United Way; co-chairing the International Year of the Family; and serving as chair of the Commission on Chemical Dependency and Child Welfare for the Child Welfare League of America. Dr. Jones was presented the Leadership in Nonprofit Management Award by Case Western Reserve University in 1997; the Outstanding Alumni Award by the Mandel School of Applied Social Services of Case Western Reserve University in 1998; and a fellowship award to the Harvard Business School in 2005.
Yvonne Chase, MSW, ACSW, LISW
Treasurer
Yvonne M. Chase is a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of Alaska/Anchorage, School of Social Work. Prior to joining the University, Ms. Chase served as deputy commissioner for the State of Alaska, Department of Education and Early Development and executive director of a local service agency. Ms. Chase holds a bachelor's degree from Loyola University in Chicago, and a Masters in Social Work from Howard University in Washington, DC. Her areas of interest include social work ethics, child welfare, and the global social work community.
Ms. Chase's NASW leadership history includes: President of the Alaska Chapter (1984-88); Chapter Executive Director Search Committee (2003); National Board member (1998 - 2001); National Board Executive Committee member (1999 - 2001); Chair, Task Force on Professional Review (2003 - 2005); Chair, National Committee on Inquiry (2001 - 2005); Presider at the 2005 Delegate Assembly; and currently a member of the NASW Assurance Services Board of Directors.
Elizabeth Clark, PhD ACSW, MPH
NASW Executive Director
Dr. Elizabeth Clark is the Executive Director of the National Association of Social Workers. Located in Washington, DC, the NASW is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world with over 150,000 members. In addition to promoting, developing, and protecting the practice of social work and social workers, NASW has a strong social justice and advocacy mission.
During her career, Dr. Clark has served in numerous administrative positions in social work, health care and academia. Previously, she was Executive Director of the New York State Chapter of NASW, the Chief Operating Officer for The March.Coming Together to Conquer Cancer, a national public awareness and grassroots organizing campaign, and Director of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY and an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Medical Oncology at Albany Medical College. Other professional experience includes Deputy Departmental Chair and Associate Professor of Health Professions at Montclair State University in New Jersey where she also served as Assistant to the Dean of the School of Professional Studies and as Vice President of the Faculty Senate. She also developed and administered the Cancer Care Program of St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, PA.
A. Elizabeth Cauble, PhD, LMSW
A. Elizabeth (Betsy) Cauble, PhD, LMSW, Head of the Department and Associate Professor of Social Work, has taught in the social work program at Kansas State University since 1993. She received both her MSW and PhD at the University of Minnesota. Prior to coming to KSU, Dr. Cauble was a child welfare administrator at Franklin County Children's Services in Columbus, Ohio. She has also been director of a hospital social work department, a family therapist and director of a custody mediation research project. While completing her graduate education, Dr. Cauble and her husband owned and operated a children's receiving home. At KSU, Dr. Cauble has been involved in the development of child welfare training modules, co-directed the SRS Training Grant from 1997 to 2000, conducted focus groups throughout Kansas as part of a US Department of Justice Grant through the Juvenile Justice Authority of Kansas to assess community needs in the area of juvenile justice, and participates in the Manhattan Network to End Violence Against Women. Her primary area of teaching is social work practice and public policy. Dr. Cauble's research interests involve the child welfare system and how violence against children constitutes a community health risk and behavioral health preparedness response, and recovery in rural areas.
Dr. Cauble's National Association of Social Workers leadership roles include: President of the Kansas Chapter (2001-2003); Chair, Professional Standards Committee KNASW (1997 - 2001); NASW Board Member (2004 - 2007); NASW Board Executive Committee (2006 - 2007); Chair, NASW Membership Committee (2005 -2007); NASW Board Representative to National PACE Committee; and current member of the NASW Assurance Services Board of Directors. Dr. Cauble received the Kansas Social Worker of the Year award in 2004.
Paul D'Agostino, ACSW
LSCW Secretary
As Executive Director of the Child Abuse Council since 1978, Paul D'Agostino is responsible for the Council's administration, fiscal management and development, with emphasis on program planning and supervision. He is the respected leader of more than 146 staff members and 600 volunteers.
Mr. D'Agostino has extensive background in clinical social work, as both caseworker and administrator in agencies specializing in children and families. Prior to coming to the Child Abuse Council, he was in private practice in child and family evaluation and treatment. Mr. D'Agostino has served as Unit Director for the Children's Project and Associate Director for the Children's Residential Project at the Florida Mental Health Institute. He was founder and president of Children's Advocates, Inc., a Boston, Mass. interagency foundation for the protection of children.
From 1988 - 1993, Mr. D'Agostino served as a Child Abuse Consultant to the Spanish Government, conducting training courses for social service professionals in Madrid, San Sebastian, Victoria and Avila, Spain.
James J. Kelly, PhD, ACSW, LCSW
NASW President
James J. Kelly, PhD, ACSW, LCSW is the Provost and Executive Vice President of Menlo College in Atherton, CA. A tenured social work educator, he worked for many years in the California State University system, most recently as a professor, Associate Vice President of Continuing and International Education, and Interim Provost at California State University, East Bay. Dr. Kelly is a former consultant to the United Nations on aging, and has extensive global experience in the areas of social work, gerontology, and business education.
Dr. Kelly received his PhD from Brandeis University, his MSSW from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and his BS from Edinboro University in Pennsylvania. In addition, he was a Post-doctoral Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry, Sepulveda Veterans Administration Medical Center, UCLA School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Kelly has been actively involved with NASW serving as president of NASW's California Chapter, and has been active in the Tennessee, Massachusetts, and Hawaii chapters. In 1987 he was named NASW's Social Worker of the Year.
Jean Parr,
Jean Parr is the Program Director of the American Chemical Society's (ACS) Member Insurance Program. In this capacity, she directs the development, marketing and administration of the group insurance plans for ACS members and is the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Group Insurance Plans for ACS Members.
Ms. Parr has held a variety of positions at ACS since joining the staff in 1981. Prior to her current posting, she was Head of the Department of Career Services (1997-2002), Staff Liaison to the Society's Committee on Economic and Professional Affairs, and served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Commission on Professionals in Science and Technology. From 1990-1996, she headed the ACS Membership Activities Department and was the Staff Liaison to the ACS Membership Affairs Committee and the Admissions Committee. She was appointed Chair of the Membership Committee, Council of Scientific and Engineering Society Executives, 1993-1995.
She spent the first ten years of her tenure at ACS in the Department of Government Relations and Science Policy. She holds a BS degree in Plant Science from the University of Delaware.
Deborah A. Reyes,
Deborah A. Reyes is President of Capital American Mortgage Company [residential and commercial real estate mortgage financing] and Deborah A. Reyes Consulting and Training Group [personal and professional development, real estate industry, business evaluation and strategic planning and not for profit organizations] in Coral Gables, Florida. Previously, she was Executive Vice President for Helpco Financial Services, Inc. Prior to that, she handled operations for an agency of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company handling life, disability and pension administration.
Ms. Reyes has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Relations from Florida International University in Miami. She holds a number of leadership positions on several boards: Chair of the World Foundation for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, Inc.; First Vice President for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami; Chair National Board Alumni for Girl Scouts of the USA; as well as serves on several Boards: the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Builders Association of South Florida; the Federal National Mortgage Association Advisory Council for the Partnership Office; Fannie Mae Foundation Community Colleges Initiative - Miami Dade Community College. She has also held Board and leadership positions with Fannie Mae Southeastern Regional Advisory Board, Chase Manhattan Mortgage Corporation's Wholesale Customer Advisory Board, Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida, Girl Scouts of the USA, Miami-Dade County Public Schools Academy of Finance, the National Association of Professional Mortgage Women, and the South Florida Association of Professional Mortgage Women.
Ms. Reyes has received a number of awards for her voluntary work; as well as recognition within her industry including: Outstanding Business Woman of the Year by the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce; the Athena Award; the highest award from Girl Scouts of the USA - Thanks Badge and from Boy Scouts - La Flor de Lis Cubana; and the Zonta Club International Volunteer of the Year Award.
Linda W. Shearer, ACBSW
Linda W. Shearer is Associate Executive Director of the Immanuel Lutheran Communities in Kalispell, MT. Immanuel Lutheran owns and operates 159 skilled nursing beds, 100 senior independent and assisted living apartments, a children's day care, and a volunteer program serving mostly senior adults in their own homes. Mrs. Shearer has been on staff for over 25 years, serving previously as Director of Resident Services and Interim Executive Director. She is a licensed nursing home administrator.
Mrs. Shearer earned a Bachelor's degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and completed a social work degree at the University of Montana. Her interest in social work grew out of an experience teaching music in the pilot program for Head Start in Jackson, MS. Before joining Immanuel Lutheran she worked in community action, juvenile justice, mental health, and child and adult protective services. She is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Montana. Her experience with NASW includes a term as President of the Montana Chapter, as well as membership on the NASW National Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
Mrs. Shearer received the Montana NASW Lifetime Achievement in Social Work Award in 2004. In 1998, she was presented with the Montana Health Care Association Commitment to Caring Award in Social Services.
